Zounis Opi (1941-2008)
Zounis Opi was born in Cairo, in 1941. She first studied painting there (1959 – 1962) and then she went at the Athens School of Fine Arts, at Yiannis Moralis’ studio (1963 – 1968). She has held 65 personal exhibitions (18 of which were abroad, in France, Switzerland, Germany and elsewhere) and she has participated in more than 300 group exhibitions, in Greece and abroad. She has attended many international conferences (Int. Sculpture Center -S. Francisco / C. Gulbenkian Foundation – Lisbon, 1987 / ISIS -Symmetry –Washington 1995, Haifa 1998, Budapest 1999 / Wenner – Gren Foundations -Stockholm 2000). Her works can be found in museums, and public, as well as private collections, in Greece and abroad. Her work has a characteristic geometric structure, which over the years took the form of an individual style, thus leaving a strong personal mark in the world of the visual arts. In 1997, her monography is published by Adam Publications (264 pages, 380 photographs in color) with her work since 1964, while in 2003, Paratiritis Publications, publish a new monography (182 pages, 240 photographs in color) with her work since 1961. Also, there are 18 multipage catalogues of her work, published on the occasion of personal exhibitions in galleries and foundations. Her articles have been published in many international anthologies and magazines: Leonardo (vol. 18/2, 1985), Symmetry 2 (Pergamon Press, 1989), Arte e Tecnologia (C. Culbenkian Foundation, Lisbon, 1993), Symmetry 2000 (Portland Press, London, 2002).
