Achilles Drougas seems to share the same view expressed by Leon Battista Alberti in the work of Painting in 1435: “Painting is an open window into the world.” Often, the younger artist draws illusions as well as the frame itself, or places curtains that make even more spectacular the spectacle revealed to us behind the frame. Still life with planted plants and flowers in them, fruits in transparencies, polished or white neoclassical utensils, birds and wild animals are portrayed with incomparable technical perfection that gives them a transcendent presence, a sense of eternity. Since the late 80’s, the painter discovers the charm of the ancient world, which has since co-existed in his compositions with elements and forms of modern life. This sympathy, sometimes peaceful, sometimes ironic, charges the image with allegorical or metaphorical meaning.Source: tovima.gr

True to the rules of visual deception, Achilles Drougas painted works of asymmetry in such a persuasive way that we have never seen from another artist of his generation. Actually, art historian Yannis Kolokotronis, Professor at DTI, says, these are not just impressive visual games of seduction but also a synergistic response to the everyday problems during the four years of the economic crisis ... And what we have to appreciate in Drouga is that he has the freedom of craftsmanship to paint the relationships between form and material. And that mirrors unexpected emotions and instinctive impressions of the relationships and concepts objects have". Source: culturenow.gr
