Silkscreen numbered and signed by Achilles Drouga.

Surrealism, the English version of pop art, and the photorealism of the 1970’s seem to be the first artistic references to Achilles Drouga’s work. Soon, however, he moved away from the rules and from the art movements of his time to develop a peculiar personal signature.

Beauty as a concept, as a word, seems today to be anachronistic, outdated. The artist who dares to serve it is in danger of being accused a scholar and rejected by the system. He needs courage and endurance. Achilles Drougas traveled to the street he had set up defying the sirens. His audience, his fans, not only in our country but also beyond the Atlantic, followed him with faith and dedication.

Still lifes coexist with fruits, vivid flowers, shiny or pale neoclassical utensils. The artist's transcendental kingdom is full of birds, wild animals rigidly placed between ancient fragments, broken columns and inscriptions, as well as fluorescent lamps, modern objects and consumer goods.
