Silkscreen numbered and signed by Achilles Drouga.

As art historian Yiannis Kolokotronis notes: “…these are not just impressive visual games of seduction but also a synergistic response to the everyday problems during the four years of the economic crisis … And what we have to appreciate in Drouga is that he has the freedom of craftsmanship to paint the relationships between form and material. And that mirrors unexpected emotions and instinctive impressions of the relationships and concepts objects have. ”

The compositions by Achilles Drouga are classic. The painter directs his motifs with balance and controlled precision. The painting process is slow, incorporating the duration into the poetry itself. All in the compositions of Drouga are as final as in engraving, which is also the other art method her had studied. There, the tools “hurt”, the material without any room for repentance. The movement of the fine brushes used by the painter penetrate the undisturbed fluctuations of light on the surface of the objects by alternating their texture, producing a variety of “sounds” and rhythms that are experienced by the viewer’s eyes as they explore the image in front of them. Light plays a leading role in the painting of Achilles Drouga. It is a spiritual light, a light that diffuses and captures the objects by blocking intense shadows. Inside this vivid light, things, shapes and colors acquire their platonic purity. Drouga never distorts the color by blending. That is why it is wrong to compare him with Caravaggio. His light is Greek in his most spiritual being. It is the light of the Greek-poets: Solomos, Sicilianus, Elytis. Drouga’s painting reveals a world that is clear, sharp and passionate, an ideal place full of silence, tranquility and contemplation.

The red, the blue, the green, the white shine undisturbed. Drouga never distorts the color by blending. That is why it is wrong to compare him with Caravaggio. The light in Drouga's painting is Greek in its most spiritual way, as Periklis Giannopoulos envisioned on the Greek Line. It is the light of the Greek-poets: Solomos, Sicilianus, Elytis. It is the light of Apollo leaving nothing cryptic under the sun. No black, no shadow threatening death. Drouga's painting reveals a world of clear, sharp and passionate, an ideal place of memory where silence, peace, contemplation reigns ...” Source: miettsimiski11.blogspot.gr
