Description:

Fassianos Alekos has been mythical about his everyday life and has opened our eyes to its hidden charm. As a genuine “popular artist” he left his art to diffuse, spread, flood and shake our everyday life with his euphoric life, her flourishing charm, his amazing youthfulness. The optimism that exudes his works is contagious and we need it. This is one of the reasons why Fassiano’s painting are so popular.

He was born under the Acropolis, at the Church of the Holy Apostles, as his grandfather was a priest and had some rooms for the family to live. His father was a musician, a professor at the National Conservatory, and a composer. But Alekos Fassianos did not follow the path of art because of his father. He did not even sit down to think about it. “It is not a matter of decision, it leads you to your passion”. And his own passion was to just become a painter. He wants to talk about his art as well as the art of Theophilos and Tsarouchis. However he has many objections, about his future plans. He passes the question about the museum near Omonia, that was the house he grew up after the family left Plaka and refuses to say anything more about his summer plans. “I do not want to answer such questions. All painters say it just to be admired. I prefer to create and for it to be shown. ”

The student, however, does not share the melancholic contemplation, the dissolution on life, the love and death that seals the teacher's painting. His own paganism is inspired by another teacher: Yiannis Tsarouchis. Antiquity, Fayum, Byzantium, Renaissance and folk art find the way to reconcile with Tsarouchi's painting, catalyzing modern art and its quests. Particular charm was exercised over his work by Henry Matisse. Castles in Tsarouchis paintings are simple, everyday people, studious and young men who are exalted in Kavafis idols of beauty and love without losing popularity. This folk element we encounter in the subject of Tsarouchis and later of Fassianos, refined, idealized, equates to my conscience with the recognition of the native language by the writers of the Generation of the 30's. And as prose writers and poets recognize the unmistakable language of General Speech in the gross, the "desolate" language of General Makrygiannis, the artists recognize the "naive", the "amazing barefoot" according to Fassianos, the popular painter Theophilos a "teacher" worthy to inspire them.
