Section: VANISHING POINT (2012)

When we talk about the relationship between Man and Machine, we don’t usually have in mind the bikers; the Harley easy riders, the Enduro riders, or the Motocross acrobats. Apostolos Yayannos, however, seems to have a different opinion, as he presents the biker as the perfect symbol of the union between Man and Machine for a meaningful cause or destination! These machines are not static traps of the mind and of leisure time, like the digital machines we have been living within in recent years. The machines in the Vanishing Point series are vehicles toward freedom, freedom that we cannot see (can its form ever truly be stabilised?), but we feel it, with our entire being, when standing before the paintings. It is defined by a dense thread of hibiscus, a fence of cacti, an obstacle of blue irises. The natural elements here act as boundaries or as gateways, that the rider opens with the momentum of their desire.
