Chryssa Vardea (December 31, 1933 – December 23, 2013), known simply as the artist’s nickname Chryssa (or Chryssa), was an internationally renowned Greek-American sculptor and painter. Her works are in various museums, galleries and collections around the world. He was known for using materials such as aluminum, gypsum and neon lights.

Born in Athens in 1933 in the area of ​​Zografou. Her family, though descended from the well-known Mavromichalis family from the Mani Peninsula, she was poor, and her father had died before she was born. She initially studied social welfare in Athens. A Greek critic convinces her family to send her to Paris. In 1953 she went to Paris, where dhe studied at the Grande Somier Academy for a year. In 1954 she departed for America and continued her studies at the Fine Arts School in San Francisco, CA for another year. In 1957 she settled in New York, where she had her own workshop. There she will be influenced by Times Square and her lights. This area will be a source of inspiration for her. In 1992 she returned to Athens for thirty-five years, creating a workshop in Neo Kosmos, but then returned to America again.

She died in Athens on December 23, 2013.
