The classic beauty and inner world of Aphrodite
I was always enchanted by the wonderful classic sculptures. But a second thought always surprised me. What does beauty hide? Can beauty hide underneath an ugliness? How much suffering and pain can beauty conceal? Aphrodite of Milos, what kind of person was she? Was she just fine? Did they admire her because she had a physical harmony and grace? Thousand of questions could be formulated to approach the notion of what was nice once and the notion of beautiful today … And finally what is beauty? Can a story of defeat, a defeated body, be an element of beauty? With these questions in mind, I started painting on classic sculptures and trying to find out what shape, harmony, and beauty are hiding. A series of new sculptural ideas have emerged that have been unmodified from their source. Now these sculptures when you see them look like children who grow up and do not carry anything more than their father and mother … With great effort you discover their origin. Some might call me profane … Only in art there is no profoundness if the work is autonomous and asserts its position.
