Katerina Koskinas, an art historian and museologist, writes for the exhibition: “Opi Zounis is a female artist, her works reflect not only her thoughts but her feelings as well. She herself loved the world and especially nature. Her strict logic of form comes of course from the real outside world. She “complemented” that with the warmth and luminosity of color that spring from the world of the creator that refers indefinitely, to something reminiscent of free impressionistic chromium feast or expressionistic gestural depiction of intense emotion. At this exhibition, where there is a variety of recent works and creations, projected and realized artistic balance governing seemingly antithetical forms and trends and turn them into mental exercises and sensory pleasures. ”
Having a double cultural heritage (Greek-Egyptian), the artist adopted with intense classical literacy, the geometric structure, the abstract mathematical thinking and the modern perceptions of the art she has seen in her numerous trips abroad.
Coming from the cosmopolitan Cairo with the ancient Byzantine and Arab tradition, she adopts the Art Déco style in most of her works, as well as the Art Nouveau style in her earliest works, with the arabesques that characterize the sacred mosque of Arabic culture.
The focus of her research was the mental and, at the same time, emotional space, our well-known physical space.
