Lavrio
In the “ruins”, Sorogas moves away from the conflict and ambiguity of white and black, but not from the problem of abandonment, fate and time. In particular, “rust” consists of machine, wheel and crane residues from the Penteli and Lavrion quarries, debris of metal bodies, rusty metal sheets in demolition sights, thick forgotten chains and eroded objects in deserted areas. The contradictions, symmetries and repetitions that govern the artist’s older creations constitute the structural shapes that, along with the simplicity of the visual media and the economy of the plastic message, prevail in new painting motifs.
