Varlamos was dedicated to painting, but mainly to engraving, and was one of the few Greek artists who distinguished himself in all its forms, with particular emphasis on woodcarving. In fact, some of his finest works are devoted to flowers, which he depicted with very great subtlety.
His choice of techniques were based on his talent in craftsmanship and the assimilation of elements from the aesthetics of the 1930s.
