Giorgos Tourkovasilis in his writing notes: “… Kostas I. Spyriounis creates abstraction. What does he take away? Is it the color? I believe that, in essence, he removes from the landscape, “ethnicity”, “gender”, in general, its “myth”. All the conventional properties and meanings we attribute to it. It is a deep inward removal. An abstraction that stripes the landscape from the elements of “known” and “familiar” and dresses it with a spiritual aura. It is a sublimation, dematerialisation of the landscape. And it is an abstraction that I would call “depth removal”, separating it from the well-known and established, non-figurative abstraction, which I would call “surface abstraction”.
Spiriounis, in a magical way, is removing color and respecting the design, achieves in his works a deeper and more spiritual abstraction than a non-iconic painting that completely dissolves the forms … ”
